Why Buy Nuna Baby Gear: What You're Actually Paying For

Buy Nuna if you want the stroller and the infant car seat to come from one family: every Nuna stroller in our table below lists PIPA series compatibility, either directly or with a ring adapter in the box. If you lift the stroller into a trunk every day, the TRVL LX is the light Nuna: 17 lb with canopy and arm bar, against 29 lb for the MIXX Next. Today the TRVL LX is $600 and the MIXX Next $900.

Prices update automatically from our store. Weights and limits are Nuna's, as printed on the product pages we sell from, and each one keeps the basis Nuna states for it.

Nuna is a stroller, car seat and nursery brand that describes its design as Dutch on its own listings. This guide is about the brand question: what the Nuna price gets you that you can check on a listing, which Nuna stroller fits which family, and where the line falls short. For a seat-by-seat comparison of the PIPA infant seats and the Nuna convertibles, see our Nuna car seat guide, which we keep separate so this page can stay on the stroller and system side.

What the Nuna price buys, in features you can verify

  • One car seat family across the strollers. The MIXX Next and SWIV listings include a ring adapter in the box for PIPA series seats. The TRVL LX and TAVO Next listings say they connect to PIPA series seats directly, with no adapter. The DEMI Next + Rider Board listing includes the ring adapter and post adapters.
  • Car seat materials without added fire-retardant chemicals. Nuna's listings for the PIPA RX, PIPA Aire RX, PIPA Aire, RAVA Next and EXEC Next all say the materials contain no added fire-retardant chemicals.
  • GREENGUARD Gold, on some seats only. The PIPA Aire RX listing states GREENGUARD Gold certification, and so do the MIXX Next + PIPA urbn bundle listing and the LUMN booster listing. The PIPA RX listing does not, so we do not claim it for every PIPA.
  • A magnetic harness buckle on the strollers. The MIXX Next, TRVL LX, TAVO Next, SWIV and DEMI Next listings all name MagneTech Secure Snap, Nuna's self-guiding magnetic buckle.

What the price does not buy is a higher crash rating. NHTSA does not rate car seats for safety. Its star ratings cover ease of use, and NHTSA notes that the seats in that program are certified by their makers to federal safety standards. So compare Nuna seats on the features in their listings, not on a "safer" label.

Prices update automatically from our store. Figures are Nuna's own, taken from our product listings. Nuna does not weigh every stroller on the same basis, so the weight row is not a like-for-like ranking. Where our listing gives no figure, we say so instead of filling the cell from another source.

Who each Nuna stroller is not for

  • MIXX Next, not for: anyone carrying the stroller up stairs or into a trunk several times a day. Nuna lists it at 29 lb, against 17 lb for the TRVL LX with canopy and arm bar, and it costs $300 more.
  • TRVL LX, not for: parents who want the seat itself to lie fully flat from day one. Nuna lists a near-flat recline here, where the MIXX Next listing says true-flat.
  • TAVO Next, not for: shoppers who need a stated weight limit before buying. Our listing describes the seat as from birth through toddlerhood without a number, and its 23.2 lb figure excludes the insert, canopy and arm bar.
  • SWIV, not for: anyone who does not need the 360-degree wheels. It costs $400 more than the TRVL LX, which Nuna lists at 17 lb against the SWIV's 21.8 lb.
  • DEMI Next + Rider Board, not for: families with one child and no plans for a second seat. Its value is the conversion, and the full single-to-double setup with the sibling seat is $1,300. Our listing also gives no stroller weight.

Flying often? The VIAA cabn ($550) is the Nuna stroller our listing calls IATA-compatible and sized for overhead bins. Our listing does not give its weight.

Does a Nuna setup cost more as a bundle?

Not on today\'s prices: the Nuna bundles we checked cost the same as their parts bought separately, and our travel system or separate guide works through the numbers and whether a bundle or the pieces suits you.

Already own another stroller?

A PIPA seat does not lock you into a Nuna stroller. We stock Nuna's PIPA adapter for UPPAbaby ($75), which Nuna and our product listing fit to 2015 and later Vista and Cruz models through the V3, and Nuna's PIPA adapter for BOB ($50), listed for BOB single strollers made from 2016 on and not for BOB doubles. Our cross-brand compatibility guide covers the other pairings.

Nuna brand FAQ

Is Nuna worth the money?

It is worth it if you will use the system: a PIPA infant seat that clicks onto the Nuna stroller you push every day, with the adapter in the box or no adapter needed. If you only need a stroller, or only a car seat, compare on the single product's own features and price instead of the brand.

Are Nuna car seats GREENGUARD Gold certified?

Some are. Our PIPA Aire RX listing, the MIXX Next + PIPA urbn bundle listing and our LUMN listing state GREENGUARD Gold certification. The PIPA RX listing does not. The PIPA RX, PIPA Aire RX, PIPA Aire, RAVA Next and EXEC Next listings all say the materials contain no added fire-retardant chemicals.

Which Nuna stroller weighs the least?

Of the five strollers we compared, the TRVL LX has the lowest figure: 17 lb including canopy and arm bar. Nuna weighs its strollers on different bases, so check what each figure includes before comparing.

Can I use a Nuna PIPA seat on a non-Nuna stroller?

Yes, on strollers with a listed adapter. We stock Nuna's PIPA adapter for 2015 and later UPPAbaby Vista and Cruz models through the V3, and its adapter for BOB single strollers made from 2016 on.

Can I return Nuna gear?

Our refund and return policy and shipping information pages carry the current terms for Nuna orders.
